First stage of Conversion to digital is over and many report no signal on KALB
Some of the broadcasters like KALB and KNOE in Louisiana have switched to digital early. And the reports are in. Fcc signal reports show that some stations like KNOE that stayed on a VHF channel actually show that more customers are covered other stations like KALB that switched from ch 5 to ch35 UHF show that many customers are now unserved.
In the above FCC map all the points tested by the fcc will no longer receive a signal. The FCC reports a estimated 129,463 people will no longer receive the NBC channel. I believe this # is much larger because people closer to KALB are also reporting no signal.
Even in strong signal areas many customers were falsely lead to believe that set top antennas would work with converter boxes by Government tv advertisements showing a set top antenna connected to a converter box. These customers have found out the hard way that set top antennas only work in the city in high signal areas. The boards are full of complaints from customers that could receive analog just fine by set top antennas but get No Digital signals now.
Other customers are reporting dropouts and no signal when it rains.
To make matters worse customers are told that they can not buy distant networks by satellite because KALB has a lock on the DMA in this area.

Update.
Cable One in vidalia La will be droping KALB and KNOE because the digital signals no longer reach the city. These customers are not included in the FCC estimates becuse the customers were outside the standard viewing area of the stations and the cable company picked them up using a large tower that no longer works.
