C-Band shutdown
Motorola has anounced that they will shut down 4dtv activations.
Others are saying that 4dtv receivers can be modified to be activated by the HTTS system so we ate waiting to see what motorola does in DEC.
NPS said.
“We had a conference call in late December when Motorola talked about discontinuing the authorization stream on April 15th,” Monfort says. After some protests and concerted lobbying, the giant manufacturer boosted prices by 20%, agreed to continue service until the end of the year and said they will then decide the future. NPS thinks they will shutdown the service.
Motorola may discontinue Cband activations at the end of this year so we have stoped selling annual subscriptions. And customers are warned that if Motorola shuts down the service that you can not get a refund. You order programming at your own risk.

maybe we could all become “charlie” customers getting dial up internet video and audio quality programming for premium dollars so when it rains out tv’s go out. we can all have a little ghey dish on our houses with that goofy looking external multiswitch zip tied to the pole.
we can get us some “crap network” service. hey i got an idea…why don’t we get some “charlie” lnbs and put on our big dishes and maybe we can maintain our programming in the rain.
sorry but i will not sub to cable or small dish if this becomes reality. i will be tv antenna and free to air receiver only.
4DTV is an excellent distribution system.
Moto is too busy selling cellphones now days. i feel sure that moto is not out too much money for 4dtv activations. they could downsize the activations dept into one room! its not rocket science to maintain a small activation data system nowdays. Maybe their old 486 DX computer went down and they don’t want to replace it LOL.
If Motorola stops authorizing, then I predict either someone else will step in to fill the void, or the hard core sat viewers will resort to other methods to obtain the programming they now pay for. Many people do not buy pizza dish TV because they do not want to pay for services they do not use. Many people do not choose to pay for poor quality programming, content, picture, and audio. C-band was the solution to obtain programming unavailable to pizza dish customers and cable. Big dish owners want to watch what they want, not only what pizza and cable are selling.
