FCC sets new standards on using the name Broadband

Filed under: Broadband — tmaster @ 1:04 pm

Well its official satellite internet no longer qualifies as broadband.

“broadband” shall no longer be officially defined as 200 Kbps downstream; from hence forth it shall be 4 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. The FCC also declared that anywhere from 14 to 24 million consumers have no access to broadband and their prospects for getting it are “bleak.”

This is great news or people who have no wireline broadband. Since satellite will not work with XBox live and cost much more than wireline.

These unserved areas now qualify for the new gov programs to bring boradband to rual areas.

So you might now get DSL after all.
