Scientific Atlanta D9850 - DVB FTA Setup Guide

How to configure the SA D9850 rackmount receiver for Free-To-Air DVB channels

About the D9850 Receiver

The Scientific Atlanta D9850 is a professional PowerVu receiver used by cable systems and broadcasters. It can also receive standard DVB FTA channels. The unit supports 4:2:0 video, AC3 audio, VBI data, and multiple LNB configurations depending on the model.

Receiver Versions

Some units have 4 LNB ports, others have 2 or 1. Only Port 1 provides LNB power and voltage switching. For safety, use an external power inserter to protect the receiver from lightning surges.

FTA Setup Instructions

  1. Go to SETUP
  2. Select MORE
  3. Select PSI menu

Use the following recommended settings:

Parameter PowerVu FTA
Stream Tuning ModeBasicAuto
CASTDOpen
Input SelectPresetPreset
Orbital PositionN/AN/A

Programming a Preset

Create a new preset and enter:

  • Preset Name
  • Downlink Frequency
  • Symbol Rate
  • Polarization
  • LNB Input Number

FEC should be AUTO. Leave Input IQ on AUTO. If you do not know the Network ID, start with 1 or 0.

LNB and Port Settings

  • C-band LO: 5.15 GHz
  • Ku-band LO: 10.75 GHz

LNB power options: 13V, 18V, or Polarizer. Do NOT use Polarizer mode; it may cause channel unlocks.

Acquiring Signal

After activating the preset, the receiver will attempt to lock the network. If it fails, try a different Network ID. Once acquired, save the preset.

Using the Web Interface

Set the IP under SETUP -> IP:

  • Example IP: 192.168.0.10
  • Mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Gateway: your router IP

Login using:

  • Username: user
  • Password: USER

Not all firmware versions include the web interface. Older units may not support it.
