How to setup a D9850 to receive DVB FTA channels

The model D9850 is a PowerVu rack mount  receiver that can be used to subscribe to PowerVu cable channels or FTA free digital channels. The receiver can receive digitally encrypted video, decode 4:2:0 video, utility data, Vertical Blanking Interval (VBI) data and (AC-3) audio decoding. The receiver has several presets for storing channels and satellites it also decodes AC3 audio.

Several versions of this receiver can be found. Some have 4 LNB ports some have 2 and some have only 1. Only port#1 can provide LNB power or LNB switching voltages.

I recommended using a power supply to run your LNBS to protect the receiver from lighting surges.

Seting receiver up for FTA

Go to SETUP menu and select MORE then select PSI menu.
This is the recommend settings provided by SA for FTA and PowerVu

Parameter PowerVu FTA
Stream Tuning Mode Basic Auto
CA STD Open
Input Select Preset Preset
Orbital Position N/A N/A

Go back to main menu and select presets and program a new preset
Enter the name, Downlink Freq, Symbol Rate, Polarization and LNB input# FEC can be set to AUTO.
DO not change Input IQ should be on AUTO. You will not likely know the Network# just set it to 1 or 0 at first.
then set the port #

Each port has its own setup because its expected that each will be on a different satellite.

You need to set the LO1 in the port setup for cband enter 5.15 OR 10.75 for standard ku  you can also turn on or off the LNB power.
Power can be set to 13,18 or Polarizer which is a LNBF. You should not use the Polarizer setting because I found it will switch while you switch channels causing the receiver to unlock.

Move the cusr to activate and press SELECT

You will get a warning message select cont and wait a sec then press MENU
You will get a acquiring signal message. It may give you a warning to try another Network ID# if so go back and change the net id.
You should get a message Network Acquired Save changes pressing SELECT
You may also get a message that the signal was acquired in degraded mode. This is ok but check your signal level to try and get it higher
Press MENU

You should now see a channel message showing channel 0 onscreen and in the window.

This menu will display the RF port# Freq Sig Lvl, BER and channel# and name
change to channel 1 and it should display the channel name and decode the channel. Try other channels.
press the UP button to switch channels if they are detected the channel name should be displayed and decoded.
Some receivers may require you to press up or down 3 times to get to the next channel. Its not known why.
Remember this receiver was built to install and forget not to change channels.
If the channels do not lock up and display the name try changing the NETID#. The Polarizer setting will also cause channels not to lock.

Using the web interface

Go into setup and select IP. set the IP address of the receiver
IP /MAsk / Gateway
192.168.0.10 /24 192.168.0.1
The gateway will not really be used but set it to your networks gateway. The mask is the Subnet mask
8= 255.0.0.0 16 = 255.255.0.0 and 24= 255.255.255.0 I use 24
Reboot the receiver then plug into your network and load the IP in your browser. http://192.168.0.10
Username is 'user' password is 'USER'

This should bring up the admin screen. If it does not and your IP is correct your receiver may not have the latest software and not support the web page. More on this later I need to know which software versions have the page and which do not.

By the web interface you can select channels, Change presets, Change port presets. And set other options. Take care that you write down all settings so you can put them back later.

The Manual for D9850 has not been placed online by SA and we can not convert it to PDF because its copyrighted. If you need more info on a option please ask. This page is a work in progress and more information will be added.

Network ID#s
Lyngsat does not have the network ID#s because most receivers do not use them. In most cases this receiver will identify the ID and display it for you. If you know a network ID# please post it in the forum because I need to start a list of all net FTA NET ids.
